A little Italy in Miami

I decided to kick things off by sharing a little place I've been in love with for a few months now. I'm some one who can live on pasta, but living in a city where the main carb is white rice i never really thought I'd find a little slice of authentic Italy right here in Miami.

I first found out about Fratelli La Bufala when I was watching an episode of "The Best Thing I Ever Ate". As I sat in my bed and saw this amazing specimen of a calzone, I knew I had to go and I had to go NOW. Within 2 day I was there and I was hooked. This place inspired me to write about food. Why this place you ask? Because they're food is simply inspiring. In a recent visit I decided to take some pictures. Please note i am not resposible for any water damager your drooling may cause your keyboard :)

This is the Bufalata.
Its the most amazing selection of everything delicious Italy has to offer. Of course it features Fratelli La Bufala's amazing mozzarella as the star of the plate and serving as a worthy co-star you have delicious cured meats, marinated veggies, sausages, roasted red peppers and lots of other little surprises.

Tagliatelle alla bologneseThis is not your abuela's salsa de tomate. This is LEGIT. This is not a dish that has an ingredient list that's as long as Lil Wayne's rap sheet. This is simple, to the point, & DELISH!

La Parma
You could put Prosciutto di Parma on anything and its going to be amazing. Here at FLB they tear it over this thin yet airy crust with fresh mozzarella & basil.
This is where you would cry food tears.

Diavola
Move over Mexico! Italy knows how to do spicy & they do it oh so well !
This has thin sliced spicy salami that takes on this chewy/crunch texture in the oven that almost reminds you of pepperoni pizza only about 1,000,000x BETTER. They cool off the heat with that amazing mozzarella, all while sneaking in a little extra heat by dusting red pepper flakes all over the pizza.

The reason we came here. What started it all...
Ripienone
This is no ordinary calzone. This calzone throws everything you've ever know about calzones and tossed it out of the culinary window. This delicious looking doughy pillow comes to the table and you think to yourself "There is no way i'm going to be able to finish this". You quickly realize you will finish it - and you're going to enjoy every moment of it.
When you cut into the calzone you realize why its so different for any other calzone you've ever had. The dough is not heavy or dense. Its this amazingly thin, airy, & tender wrapping over what is, in my opinion, FILLING HEAVEN ! There is a perfect blend of bufala mozzarella, bufala ricotta, salami, basil, & tomato sauce. No one ingredient over takes the other. They do this amazing dance which is EPICLY in sync.

We ended the night with some crepes filled with Nutella. For those of you living in a 1950's bomb shelter, Nutella is Italy's version of peanut butter. Only its more delicious and amazingly awesome on just about anything you can think of.
(go ahead think of things you'd put nutella on... Bread - AWESOME, Fruit - HELLO AMAZING, Spoons - SIMPLE PERFECTION. You get the picture)

Needless to say, no matter what you order at Fratelli La Bufala you will not be disappointed. Their food is simple. Yet their attention to detail will keep you coming back for more. Which I surely will continue to do

Check them out on FourSquare & Facebook for amazing deals & specials.

Until next time :)
